I am a current intern working for the Department of Education (DoE) at Public School 41 The Stephanie A. Vierno School. The school currently uses a very primitive system of pen and paper to keep track of their existing IT inventories. The DoE tracks each school’s inventory in a spreadsheet, but those spreadsheets does not account for equipment that have been decommissioned, removed, or thrown away. Those spreadsheets includes all of the equipment a school has ever purchased or requested since the school’s founding. Clearly, a better system is needed to keep track of inventories and be up to date with the 21st century.
